About Head Space Theatre
The primary mission of Head Space Theatre is to create high-quality
audio theatre, both live performance and recordings. The company
plans to work with both original scripts and adaptations of
classic works and to delve into many genres. HST's goal is
to provide its audiences with a rich listening experience
as well as a great deal of food for thought. We wish to challenge
audiences to expand their horizons.
The Chicago-based company was founded in 2002 by Peter and
Katharine Pollack. Both members of the husband and wife team
have worked extensively with Moebius
Theatre, a science fiction theatre company that produces
mainly sketch comedy for live performance at science fiction
conventions and related venues. One departure from Moebius'
usual fare was a foray into the realm of live audio theatre
with their 1999 production of an original adaptation of the
H.G. Wells story, "The
Island of Dr. Moreau." Moebius performed the adaptation
at a number of conventions, as well as at various branches
of the Chicago Public Library. Katharine Pollack wrote the
adaptation, and also directed the production. Peter was the
sound designer and engineer.
This experience whetted the appetite of the founders of Head
Space to do more of this sort of production. In May 2002,
Peter attended the National
Audio Theatre Festival Workshop in Missouri to hone his
skills and learn more, and the company was finally born this
August.
Although the primary focus of Head Space is audio theatre,
don't be surprised if you find us delving into other areas
of theatrical performance as well. |
